Room stinking of sewage! - My partner booked this hotel as a special get away for part of my 30th and what a disaster it was. The room was stinking, we couldn’t work out if it smelt of sewage or a babies dirty nappy. The only thing the manager could offer was 50% off, there were no other rooms available. I was also told there was a block in the sewage pipes a week ago, so why on earth not check the room before handing it over to paying guests! We ended up booking elsewhere, could not sleep in that, absolute disgrace. So unhealthy for anyone to sleep in no matter how much air freshener you spray. I have emailed the hotel twice and I am still awaiting a reply. Food at restaurant was nice however service was completely rushed, had to ask to order a drink. Was sat in a corner next to staff entrance. We were next to a curtain which staff kept forgetting to close. Next to us were staff eating meals in between serving. And the restaurant smelt of wet dog but that’s because it’s a dog friends restaurant.

Unhelpful, awkward and rather rude - We (tried) to visit the Crown on Friday. It was about 5.30, we walked over the bridge and could see plenty of space in the garden so decided to go for a drink . When we entered, we were told abruptly there wasn't anything available for 45 minutes. I asked if we needed to put our name down to wait and rather than answering my question was told (rudely) we don't accept bookings. I said 'do I Wait here, she said no, we don't accept bookings you will have to wait outside. After standing outside for a period of time watching other people go past me and get seated straight away, i decided to take a risk and polity ask why I couldn't have a seat but everyone else could. I was told it was because of heath and safety (laugh) . We weren't allowed to site in the garden with my 8 year old daughter because of health and safety . Apparently because of the 2 foot deep river at the end of the garden. The same river we all paddled in as kids- Killjoys . I don't think this is an isolated incident with the crown, i seem to remember last year being told to move from the booths on the balcony , again because of heath and safety. just come out with it, if you don't want families with children, put a note on the door. Only affluent couples from surrey allowed ! Luckily , the Robinsons pub opposite (Pooley bridge hotel i think) couldn't be more welcoming so we spent our bank Holiday evenings in there , spending our money - hope anyone reading this does the same and spends in the local businesses that want your custom. This seems to be a common theme starting of our weekends in Pooley bridge- get told you cant enjoy yourself in the crown, followed by fun at the Sun Inn or Pooley Bridge Hotel
